Dr Botha is a specialist physician and endocrinologist practicing at Netcare Sunward Park
Hospital since the beginning of August 2022. He completed his bachelor’s degree in medicine
and surgery at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2010 and went on to complete his
internship and community service at Tembisa Hospital and Tambo Memorial Hospital
respectively. He completed his specialist physician training and MMed at the University of the
Witwatersrand in 2018 and worked at Tembisa Hospital as a specialist physician until August
2019. In August 2019, he started working as a specialist physician, specialising in endocrinology,
at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, while rotating through the different endocrine units
associated with the University of the Witwatersrand.
“Endocrinology has intrigued me since I was a medical student. Since my student days, the
field of diabetes and endocrinology has expanded dramatically, especially the management
of diabetes and obesity. With many more treatment options available and the ever-evolving
technology available within this field, I do believe that optimal diabetic control and prevention
of complications are possible. Assisting patients to improve their quality of life by helping them
manage their conditions is what motivates me.”
Dr Botha has a special interest in diabetes, obesity, thyroid pathology and hypertensive
endocrinopathies. He believes prevention is better than cure and is thus a keen advocate for a
healthy lifestyle. In his spare time, he hikes with his family and spends time outdoors, gardening
and playing with his kids and dogs.
Dr Botha’s practice is based at Netcare Sunward Park Hospital, Boksburg, where he treats
both admitted hospital patients and out-of-hospital patients. He often collaborates with other
specialists and colleagues to ensure the best possible care for his patients. His rooms are easily
accessible within the Netcare Sunward Park Hospital building with easy access to radiological
facilities, the pharmacy, and laboratories for blood tests.
The friendly practice personnel are readily available to assist with bookings and to ensure good
communication between him and his patients.
The practice can perform a wide variety of bedside investigations like ECGs, basic lung function
tests and glucose monitoring to assist with diagnosing and managing medical conditions.
Dr Botha aims to use cost-effective, evidence-based methods and the latest treatment
guidelines to ensure the best care and best possible outcomes for his patients.
